A-Level Students Experience the Future of Aerospace at John Leggott College in Scunthorpe

The Schools’ Aerospace Careers Programme (ACP) brought its mix of cutting-edge technology and industry insight to John Leggott College in Scunthorpe on 1st October 2025, marking the third presentation of the 2025/26 academic year. The visit saw A-Level students explore the fast-evolving world of aerospace innovation through talks, demonstrations, and immersive hands-on sessions.

Chris Marshall led the day with a dynamic presentation on how aerospace is adapting to rapid technological change — from automation and digitalisation to sustainability and new career pathways emerging as a result. He was joined by Ogi Damjanovic, who explored the creative side of the industry through virtual reality design and immersive technology, illustrating how VR is transforming the way engineers and designers approach complex projects. Mike Stokes followed with a clear, practical overview of the pathways to becoming a commercial pilot, supported by a 360-degree virtual reality flight experience that placed students directly in the cockpit.

The second half of the day gave students the chance to put theory into action through ACP’s interactive breakout sessions. Chris Marshall oversaw FPV drone simulators, letting students experience the precision and focus of remote flight control. Mike Stokes delivered the VR flight experience, which proved a major highlight, while Ogi Damjanovic guided students through 3D VR design, allowing them to experiment with spatial creativity in a virtual environment.

Adding a distinctive touch to the day, Spot, the quadruped robot developed by Boston Dynamics, drew a great deal of attention during live demonstrations — showcasing just how closely robotics and aerospace now intersect.

The visit was coordinated by Careers Lead Natasha Skelton, whose support helped ensure a smooth and engaging experience for all involved.

ACP extends its thanks to John Leggott College for its continued collaboration and enthusiasm. The event further reinforced ACP’s mission to connect students with real-world aerospace experiences and inspire the next generation of innovators and professionals.
