Dulwich College hosts the ACP Roadshow
On 29 November the ACP Roadshow Team of Chris Marshall, Lee Mason, Michael Smith and Mike Stokes, accompanied by Aaron Ellis from Babcock International, were hosted by Dulwich College in South London when they presented to an audience of 104 young people and staff including those from the Charter School, Alleyn’s School, Harris Boys’ Academy, St Michael’s Catholic College, St Thomas the Apostle School & Sixth Form College, and Kingsdale Foundation School.
During the morning, and starting with NASA’s Artemis programme, Dr Smith introduced students to some of the technologies from what is known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution (see: Technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution) such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, The Internet of Things, Robotics, Drones, Virtual Reality, Quantum Computers, Nanotechnology, 3D Printing and Blockchain + Cryptocurrency. With Blockchain and Cryptocurrency he was joined by Lee Mason, and with robotics and AI by Chris Marshall who introduced and directed questions to Spot, our Boston Dynamics quadruped robot, who then handed over to Aaron Ellis who introduced Babcock International and explained his journey to a current two-year graduate programme with the company.
Dr Smith continued by explaining the aerospace, space and aviation industries in more depth and made particular reference to their current and future career opportunities, plus future technologies up to the year 2050. Following our introduction of a student dressed in a replica NASA Shuttle EVA suit with one of our drones flying ‘top cover’ a short break was taken for lunch and then the during the afternoon the students were encouraged to be ‘hands-on’ with drone flight simulators, VR flight experiences and Augmented Reality design plus 3D Printing.
On behalf of the ACP Trustees, Dr Smith would like to thank most warmly Mrs Fiona Angel, the College’s Acting Master and, in particular, Liza Neudegg, Head of Careers and Nathalie Whittington from the Southwark School Learning Partnership, plus their colleagues for the excellent organisation and hosting. Finally, we are most grateful indeed to Babcock International who were superbly represented by Aaron.
The visiting schools have now joined Dulwich College as members of the ACP Network and will receive a continuing and growing input of relevant information via our website, social media and YouTube channel. To the staff of all seven schools we say a very sincere Thank You, and to the students we wish them every success for their future education and subsequent careers. We look forward to presenting again at Dulwich College in academic year 2027/28.
