Forest School Students Engage with ACP Roadshow
The Schools’ Aerospace Careers Programme continued its 2026 Roadshow with a first visit to Forest School (Walthamstow) on Friday 6 March, welcoming approximately 80 students from the host school and three visiting schools. Students attending the event ranged from Year 10 through to Sixth Form, creating a broad audience of those beginning to consider future study and career pathways.
The programme was delivered by Chris Marshall, Mike Stokes and Ogi Damjanovic, following the ACP’s established presentation structure that combines forward-looking discussion with practical technology demonstrations.
The morning sessions explored how aerospace sits within a wider landscape of rapidly advancing technologies. Chris Marshall introduced students to the changing nature of aviation and engineering, highlighting developments in automation, systems integration and digital simulation that are reshaping the sector. Ogi Damjanovic then demonstrated the role of immersive design tools, explaining how virtual reality is increasingly used in professional engineering, modelling and prototyping environments. Mike Stokes concluded the presentations by outlining pilot training pathways and describing the broader network of operational careers that support modern aircraft operations beyond the flight deck.
The afternoon breakout sessions allowed students to engage directly with the ACP technology suite. FPV drone simulators provided a practical introduction to flight control and spatial awareness, while the VR design station enabled students to construct and explore their own virtual environments. The ACP Flight Simulator attracted sustained interest throughout the session, with many students returning for multiple attempts as they developed a feel for the controls and basic handling of the aircraft. Alongside this, the VR Flight Experience offered insight into cockpit procedures and the decision-making environment pilots work within.
Spot, the quadruped robot, once again proved a focal point for discussion, providing a tangible demonstration of the growing relationship between robotics, AI and real-world engineering systems.
Engagement across all year groups remained strong throughout the day, with students asking thoughtful questions about both technical careers and the broader opportunities within aerospace and related industries.
The ACP extends its thanks to Sandip Charlton, Director of Futures at Forest School, for coordinating the event and supporting a well-organised and successful first visit.
“Incredible learning experience and really made me rethink the aerospace career as a whole.”
