The ACP Lands in Edinburgh to Launch First Roadshow of 2025

For our first Roadshow event of 2025, the ACP presented to students from several schools across the Edinburgh region. Hosted by St George’s School for Girls on 28 January, the presentation team, led by Chris Marshall, alongside Mike Stokes and Lee Mason, welcomed 109 students and teachers from Craigmount High School, Grangemouth High School, Mary Erskine (ESMS), St Matthew’s Academy, The Royal High School (Edinburgh), as well as from the host institution, St George’s.

Throughout the morning, Chris Marshall introduced students to pioneering technologies commonly associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, demonstrating how these emerging fields often work together to shape the future of aerospace and aviation. With a focus on robotics and AI, Chris presented Spot, our Boston Dynamics quadruped robot. Mike Stokes provided an introduction on pathways to becoming a pilot in both private and commercial aviation. Lee Mason discussed how blockchain, cryptocurrency, and AI currently and will continue to be significant additions to our day-to-day lives.

In a further breakout session, students and staff were invited to explore VR in the form of a light-aircraft circuit experience, trial FPV drone-flight software, try out augmented/virtual reality design, and witness 3D printing demonstrations in action. They were also encouraged to ask questions and discover more about how these technologies could influence their future careers in aviation, space, and beyond.

The ACP was also delighted to welcome two of our supporting companies: Hamish Miller from Babcock International and Bryden Priest from SaxaVord Space Port. They offered first-hand insights into their organisations and highlighted the exciting range of careers available.

On behalf of the ACP, we extend our warmest thanks to Carol Chandler-Thompson, Headteacher of St George’s School, for the wonderful support and hospitality provided throughout the day. We also wish to thank Stephanie Hall, Head of Careers for the seamless coordination that made this event a success. All visiting schools have now joined St George’s as members of the ACP Network and will receive ongoing updates and resources through our website, social media, and YouTube channel.

This milestone event marks the ACP’s first presentation in Scotland, reaffirming our drive to cover the whole of the UK over the next 12–18 months, with presentations anticipated for Wales and Northern Ireland.

We look forward to continuing the Roadshow throughout 2025, engaging and motivating students to explore the boundless opportunities within aerospace, aviation, and space technologies. Stay tuned for our next stop!
