The Schools’ ACP holds its second Network Event

Courtesy of superb hosting by GKN Aerospace, the ACP held its second Network event on 9 November 2023 at GKN’s Global Technology Centre in Filton, Bristol. 70 pupils from local schools attended and GKN really ‘pulled out the stops’. The event involved introductions to, and explanations of, many of the Technology Centre’s ongoing projects involving such technologies as robotics, composites, 3D printing, Hydrogen propulsion and advanced aviation mobility (commonly called flying taxis). Dr Michael Smith, the ACP’s Chairman, was present and, judging by the many comments he has received from the young people and teachers present, the day was a great success.

One particularly significant element was the one hour careers Q&A session at the end of the visit which involved six members of the GKN Aerospace team, all of whom, with many more, had been involved in meeting with the students that day. They answered some most pertinent questions concerning their careers so far, and provided advice to the students in front of them. This went down extremely well.

During the event considerable video footage was recorded which will appear on the ACP’s forthcoming YouTube channel.

To conclude, the ACP would like to thank: John Pritchard, President Civil Airframe GKN Aerospace; Sameer Savani, VP GTC UK; and all their team, in particular Bethany Hall, Megan Williams and Laura Bean who were deeply involved in the planning as well as the execution. But there were so many more. Thank you all for a fantastic day!
